Indo US Entrepreneurship Summit, September 12-21, 2012 – Women Entrepreneurs

Please alert your membership and other friends both in the USA and India to this 9-day Summit (see attached brochure) to be held on the UI Campus. This first Indo-US Summit will give emphasis and highlight the work of women entrepreneurs.

 The Summit, interactively will explore, engage, and enhance the capabilities of participating entrepreneurs. 

Some of the topics covered would include:

• Meeting and sharing ideas with women entrepreneurs and leaders

• Visiting and observing practices of small businesses

• Visiting selected major business enterprises in the area

• Participating in several entrepreneurship classes

• One-on-one and group interactions with Tippie College of Business faculty and students

• Attending an all-day Innovators Expo

(with an estimated 500 participants)

• Visiting successful incubators/enterprises at the UI’s Oakdale Campus

• Exploring new technologies of the future

• Attending Friday Speaker Series (depending on schedule)

• Visiting a local family farm enterprise

• Attending cultural programs and events

• Engaging with the Iowa City Indian community

• Experiencing Iowa City’s farmer’s market and shopping

• Socials, mixers, banquets and recognition ceremonies

• Developing a summary of lessons learned

We plan to register only a limited number of qualified registrants (maximum of 30), majority of them from India. The 9-day program fees for the Summit is estimated to be $3,000. Two-thirds of the estimated program fees will be underwritten by UI scholarships, and the remainder of $1,000 will be borne by participants. In addition, IUES participants will be responsible for direct expenses of travel, lodging and some of the meals. If you know anyone who might be interested, please request them to contact me ASAP, so that I can arrange to get an invitation sent to them. Of course, you are welcome to register and join us at the Summit as well. The Summit will give participants a marvelous opportunity to connect with Indian entrepreneurs. 

 Note: Prakasam Tata has already recruited two individuals, one from Chicago and another from Vijayanagaram, India to participate in this conference.

Creating an Entrepreneurial Ecosystem – The Power of Ideas

India’s largest entrepreneurship development programme is back. Seeking to create a culture of innovation in the country by touching more lives, the programme aims at encouraging individuals with a business idea to come forward and connects them with relevant mentors and investors. This year, equipped with a superior degree of mentoring and a larger corpus of funds, The Economic Times’ Power of Ideas will make an even bigger impact than 2010.

The programme is conducted by The Economic Times in partnership with the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India. DST brings to the programme its immense expertise and relationships in the entrepreneurial space as well as a corpus of Rs. 6.2 crore of guaranteed funds. The funds are open to all deserving ideas with genuine innovation on their mind, regardless of whether they have just an idea or a fully functional start-up.

Highlights of the programme structure:

Phase I: Submission of busi-ness ideas — Last date for submission of Business Summary form is June 25, 2012

Phase II: Mentoring and Elevator Pitches for those entrepreneurs whose ideas make it to the first cut-off list

Phase III : Final cut-off + Intensive Mentoring at IIM-Ahmedabad

10000 WOMEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Launched by Goldman Sachs, 10,000 Women is a global initiative that will increase the number of under-served women entrepreneurs receiving a business and management education. This initiative is built on the premise that partnerships between education, development, and business experts can help bring about significant change through improved business education for women entrepreneurs.

PARTICIPANT PROFILE
To ensure that the initiative benefits the most deserving candidates, the program targets businesses and businesswomen that satisfy the following criteria:

  • The business is owned or co-owned by the applicant
  • The business has been in existence for at least a year
  • The business has the potential to grow through the infusion of management techniques and know-how
  • The revenue turnover of the business is between Rs.5,00,000 and Rs.75,00,000 per annum
  • The entrepreneur who runs the business is proficient in English
  • The entrepreneur is preferably not a post-graduate in business or a PhD in any discipline
  • The entrepreneur is underserved in terms of family income and family circumstances

Global Entrepreneurship Summit – IIT Kharagpur

The theme for this year’s summit is “Innovation-The Creators of Tomorrow”. The highlight of the summit is the “Startup Camp” to be held on 15th January 2012. The camp would provide a platform for the startups, venture capitalists and students all across the nation to interact with one another and also provide students the splendid opportunity to gain internships! The summit will also feature Guest Lectures by eminent innovatorsand World-Class Workshops on the various aspects related to Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

We are a non-profit student organisation at IIT Kharagpur with the aim of fostering the spirit of entrepreneurship among college students in India. We are one of the most successful entrepreneurial organisations in the country with 28 start-ups incubated within 5 years of our inception.

We conduct our flagship event – Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) every year in January, and this is oneof the biggest entrepreneurial platforms for academicians, new-age entrepreneurs, eminent business personalities, venture capitalists and students to gather at one place and share their entrepreneurial endeavours and experiences, and to pledge to take entrepreneurship to greater scales. GES 2012 will be held from 13-15 January 2012 at IIT Kharagpur. More than 2000 students from various engineering colleges in India will be a part of this summit.

GES 2012 also plays host to the Global Entrepreneurship Conference in India. The conference aims to provide a platform where promotion of entrepreneurship could be discussed with a global perspective.
