LEVEL OF FUNDING : About Rs. 6.25 lakh per business idea flexible between Rs. 4 lakh to Rs 8 lakh per idea t unit as recommended by experts and Management Committee of ZTM- BPDUnit ,

WHO CAN APPLY: Any Indian individual / NRI / Startups / Micro & Small Enterprises having innovative business idea near commercialization stage.

India’s first ever student startup showcase

We are delighted to write to you about an exciting, new initiative at NEN: The NEN First Dot 2010-2011, India’s first ever student startup showcase!

An initiative of the NEN Entrepreneurship Cells in Chennai and the NEN Trust, the First Dot brings together student start-ups from across the country, providing them an opportunity to showcase their products and services to a panel of successful entrepreneurs, expert mentors, national print and electronic media, as well as a large number of peers.

The showcase will take place at the SSN College of Engineering in Chennai on January 10th and 11th, 2011.

NEN First Dot is currently inviting nominations from student startups across the country. If you are one, or if you know any one, we’d love to hear from you!

Who can apply:

Any student in India who is a founder/co-founder of a startup can apply to participate.

Note: All student startups that submit nominations to participate in NEN First Dot will be given a stall at the event for marketing and networking purposes. However, of all the nominations that are received, only 30 startups will get the opportunity to present to the panel of entrepreneurs and investors.

Suhas Gopinath – World’s Youngest Entrepreneur

Mr. Suhas Gopinath, now aged 24, a resident of Bangalore and hails from a middle class family, where his father was a defense scientist. At the age of 14 he was recognized as the worlds youngest certified Professional Web-developer through his project coolhindustan.com. Mr. Gopinath was very assertive to be an entrepreneur and wanted to encourage the youth, he setup Globals Inc, in the year 2000 at San Jose, California as the laws in India did not allow him to setup a company in the country as he was still minor. From then Globals has drastically grown as a Multi-national IT consulting company focussed on Web, e-Commerce and Mobile Solutions.

The Infosys Prize – Securing India’s scientific future

The Infosys Prize endeavors to elevate the prestige of scientific research in India and inspire young Indians to choose a vocation in scientific research.

The Infosys Science Foundation, a not-for-profit trust, was set up in February 2009 by the management of Infosys. The Foundation instituted the Infosys Prize, an annual award, to honor outstanding achievements of researchers and scientists across five categories : Social Sciences, Physical Sciences, Engineering and Computer Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Life Sciences, each carrying a prize of rupees 50 Lakh. The award intends to celebrate success in scientific research and stand as a marker of excellence in these fields.

A jury, comprising eminent leaders in each of these fields, evaluates the achievements of the nominees against the standards of international research, placing the winners on par with the finest researchers in the world.

Categories

The award will be presented annually in five categories:

Physical Sciences – Physics, Chemistry and Earth Science
Mathematical Sciences – Mathematics and Statistics
Engineering and Computer Science – All branches of Engineering
Life Sciences – Biology, Biotechnology, Medicine and Agriculture
Social Sciences* – Economics, History, Sociology, Anthropology and
Political Science

*Under the Social Science category, 2 subjects will be considered per Prize year. In 2010, work in the areas of Sociology and Anthropology will be considered.

SBI Capital set to launch Rs 100 crore SME fund

SBI Capital Markets Ltd, the investment advisory arm of State Bank of India, is planning to float a dedicated small and medium enterprises (SME) fund with an initial corpus of Rs 100 crore in the next one and half years.

“The SME fund will be used to rope in private equity investment in SME, which otherwise is facing dearth of capital for furthering its business growth,” Rajeev Krishnan, executive vice president, SBI Capital Markets said on the sidelines of a seminar on SME here.
