Tata Power from Water

In the first such effort, Tata group chairman Ratan Tata has signed on a leading scientist from the globally renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to commercialize cutting-edge research that promises to produce cheap power from water.

Daniel Nocera, a professor of chemistry and energy, and his group of elite scientists at MIT attracted attention from Tata when he heard they had found a way towards one of science’s holy grails—to imitate photosynthesis, the process by which plants breathe, and produce power while doing so.

SCHEME FOR THE AWARD OF FELLOWSHIPS TO OUTSTANDING PERSONS IN THE FIELD OF CULTURE
Ministry of Culture operates the Scheme for the Award of Senior/Junior Fellowships for undertaking research oriented projects in the fields of Performing, Literary and Plastic Arts as also New Areas related to Culture. The Scheme has recently been revised and, starting from the year 2010-11, 400 Fellowships (200 Senior Fellowships of the value of Rs. 20,000/- per month and 200 Junior Fellowships of the value of Rs. 10,000/- per month) will be awarded every year.
Applications are invited from eligible persons for award of Senior/Junior Fellowships for the year 2010-11. Details of the Scheme, instructions for applicants and format of the application form can be downloaded from the website of the Ministry: http://www.indiaculture.nic.in

India’s first ever student startup showcase

We are delighted to write to you about an exciting, new initiative at NEN: The NEN First Dot 2010-2011, India’s first ever student startup showcase!

An initiative of the NEN Entrepreneurship Cells in Chennai and the NEN Trust, the First Dot brings together student start-ups from across the country, providing them an opportunity to showcase their products and services to a panel of successful entrepreneurs, expert mentors, national print and electronic media, as well as a large number of peers.

The showcase will take place at the SSN College of Engineering in Chennai on January 10th and 11th, 2011.

NEN First Dot is currently inviting nominations from student startups across the country. If you are one, or if you know any one, we’d love to hear from you!
